Oh yes, there are an abundance of sayings that try to remind people not to let their past carve their futures! The reality is however that the past can and does indicate a pattern of thought that if not attended to, to some degree can indicate decision making patterns in the present and the coming future. The past is a shadow and a shining beacon that we all have to our benefit and it's not something to really fear or to run from. Think about this for a moment and set your own past to your mind where your present life is concerned. Has your past influenced the individual you have become? Has the past affected you both in ill ways as well as those many wonderful ones? Of course it has! Yes we all have our own separate pie that makes up the totality of our lives. We all have so many divergent slices of all sizes that carry so many colors and flavors, so many experiences and so many different fillings that should we really take the time to consider just who we have become and what we have truly achieved in our lives has been the benefit of all that we have experienced up to this point in time in our lives. This is just the sleeping cat lying next to us wherever we may find ourselves at any moment that we call our lives right here and now. The altered function of the self begins to become a concern when someone either lives or adopts wary forms of self-creation based heavily upon beliefs and self-implied values from too much of what we might individually call those "bad" times instead of gaining insight from all of what we were and to all of whom we will become! Let's face it; nobody gets through this life without pain, without some suffering and without some tears. The thing to also remember however is that nobody gets through this life without smiles as well, without laughter, without brilliant amounts of self-revelation and without some form of that thing we all broadly call "love" in our lives! There are none in this world who are lacking in the experience of life. Yes, we all carry separate membership cards retaining our own individual experiences and our own ways of perceiving those places from where we all came up to this time in our lives. The real question to ask is how much and to what extent do we allow the past to influence our present thoughts and decision making in our lives versus how much have we learned about ourselves throughout the process then letting the complexity of all of these slices of our own pies of life to better serve us at the end of each day? Your past is not a dark specter to be feared any longer and nor is it a ball and chain keeping you from taking flight to the star that is your goal! Your past is not a keeper or a retaining cell locking you out of your future path whatever such a path is for you! Your past is merely a set of experiences and ways of being that you lived through to the best of your then ability, and it does not have to keep you from "being" to the absolute and fullest extent of your soulful ability! Who you are right here and right now is a product of "your" thoughts and your decision making and nobody else's and that is simply the truth! Who you will become however is also just as much a product of "your" thoughts and your decision making abilities and this gets to the crux of the pin circling around your head every day! Are you living too much in yesterday and not enough in today? Are you blinding yourself from wiser thoughts and decisions that could better influence your life from this point on as a result of a past that is always behind you?
