"Courage is being scared to death but saddling-up anyway." - John Wayne Many things in life scare us. Facing a new position in life, needing to stare down someone or some situation that is filling us with dread, or even dispelling some rational or irrational fear and then deciding to push ahead with our lives anyway. The list is immense and virtually endless. The thing to remember is that there is nothing in life that we cannot face but none of this means that you're not going to be filled with fear over it!I was recently reminded yet again about the vast constructs of fear and how it can so easily stall any of us in our tracks simply because we choose to allow it to glue our feet in place and to cage us. Everyone in their own way holds some understanding about this feeling while some hold much more intimate understandings about the ways that their fears have kept them from moving forward. Nothing and nobody ever said that life was or ever could be a cake walk although I must admit I never really understood the concept of walking on top of a cake. What I do understand intimately however is how fear can work its way into people's daily lives. I have met souls who have had their paths almost or virtually stalled because they were so fearful of leaving their homes, or facing someone, or a new situation down that could alter their paths to much better ends. I've also encountered and witnessed souls who somehow regardless of any odds expressed the ability to punch their ways through incredible walls and then they walked their ways to some form of success. Kid yourself not in any way, the overall principle here is the leading edge of the quote at the beginning of this chapter to everyone and yes I mean everyone! When I recall watching John Wayne films I sometimes wonder how real life characters might have reacted if they found themselves in the same types of situations that were being depicted. Nobody ever said that Wayne was a grand philosopher of life, but boy did he have it straight down the line when he forwarded his thoughts on fear! Fear really does tend to weed it's tentacles in our lives in many ways and the answer to dealing with it can be as simple as Wayne spoke of. Let it stop you or acknowledge your fear and "saddle-up anyway." Courage rests in deciding not to give up or to give up at the right time, in not allowing your fears to rip your own saddle off of your mount, in not letting your fear about life, your potential success, or failure and your life's situations to stop you. The key is in deciding to move forward with your life anyway and not letting your fears to keep you from being the best and the brightest you that you can be. Watch the success driven people of the world and go ahead and think; are they ever afraid? Of course they are! Of course they have been! Of course they will be! They also however do work Mr. Wayne's quote in their lives. Many times they chose and choose courage over fear. "Courage is being scared to death but saddling-up anyway." - John Wayne Think about it in your life. I recently did and boy did this quote help me out! It's brilliant the things that a simple quote on the inside edge of a coffee cup can do to us... As always, WD Allan © Copyright 2012, WD Allan, Spiritualitymoment.com All Rights Reserved
